Day 29 - A Book Everyone Hated but You Liked
I gave Luxe four stars. My GR friends? Did not.
Now, my rating was a bit generous. I said in the comments of my review that if GR allowed half stars, it would have been a 3.5 because Elizabeth's characterization swung WILDLY though the book. It's about as historically accurate as the time Gossip Girl flashed back to the 1980s. It's hard to root for a single character, (martyr, rebellious tomboy, evil bitch, scheming backstabber, shiftless rogue, and martyr again.) But I found it so much fun. It completely embraces its wickedness, and never stops as the series wears on.
Comparing it to GG isn't an accident. If you like a soap opera about New York teens with too much money and too little sense? By golly, you'll like the book set in 1899 too. It's probably rotting my brain, but I can't think of another series that I gave all the books four stars.
